For over 70 years Esky has been the brand of choice for Aussies wanting to enjoy the outdoors with family and friends. With proven performance and trusted quality Esky has been keeping drinks cold and lunches fresh for generations of Australians.
From humble beginnings in a Sydney sheet metal workshop, Esky coolers have evolved from simple sheet metal boxes, insulated with cork, into the sleek modern high-performance models we see today. A true icon of Australia Esky continues to provide outdoor enthusiasts with quality products that enable families and friends to enjoy the great outdoors.
Originally designed for use in automobiles, the Esky designs evolved into portable picnic and drinks coolers that became etched into the cultural identity of Australia during the 1970s and 1980s. A common sight at the Sydney and Melbourne cricket grounds or scattered across the world renowned beaches of the Australian coastline, the Esky brand grew into the icon it is today. Esky is now ingrained in Australian culture and the brands huge popularity has ensured it has become the term used for any cooler box regardless of brand.
Remember, if it doesn’t say Esky it’s not an Esky.
Francis Malley starts his sheet metal working business in Sydney making ice boxes. They were named the 'Eskimo Ice Box,' soon shortened to 'Esky.'
Malley releases the original Esky® Auto Ice Box. The first version was made from sheet metal and designed for use in cars for travel and picnics.
Malley launches a smaller, portable version of the ice box for walks and BBQs. In 1956 the range expands by three colours.
It is claimed that half a million Australian households own an Esky® cooler.
